It is with great pleasure that we announce the 2nd ‘International Course on Intraoperative Ultrasound in Neurosurgery’, will be held at the University of Pretoria, hosted by the Department of Neurosurgery, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria, Steve Biko Academic Hospital.
Intraoperative imaging has become an indispensable tool in Neurosurgery, especially in brain and spine tumor surgery. Intraoperative Ultrasound (IOUS) as a neurosurgical adjunct is cost effective and widely used in hydrocephalus, endoscopic, vascular and tumor surgery. There has been a tremendous increase in the interest and awareness of IOUS in neurosurgery, highlighting the clear need for adequate training. Following the unprecedented success of the 1st ‘International Course on Intraoperative Ultrasound in Neurosurgery’ held in Mumbai last year, we are exceptionally proud to host the world’s leading authorities in this field, as teaching faculty on this course. This 2-day course will cover basic principles, practical tips, as well as latest advances in this field, including navigated ultrasound, 2D and 3D imaging, elastography, sheer wave imaging, contrast enhanced as well as therapeutic High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU).
Didactic lectures will be combined with extensive hands-on and video sessions, including unique simulation stations, purpose designed models and hand-eye co-ordination stations, all taught by international leaders in this field. This is a wonderful opportunity for local and international neurosurgeons at all stages of their career to advance and expand their surgical skill set.
