One Health Events

The broader international One Health community hosts a multitude of conferences, symposiums, lectures, and workshops throughout the year. All of these events are designed to educate individuals on the concept of One Health and develop a practical understanding of how a multidiscipline approach can be the most advantageous to our future. For more details on One Health events go to One Health Platform Events.

The UP Centre for Viral Zoonoses participates in and hosts many such One Health related events. The largest of these being the annual One Health Symposium.

The symposium is scheduled for early November, to overlap with the international One Health Day. It will be held at the University of Pretoria's HW Snyman campus and will be open to the general public to attend. More details will be released as they are made available.

2018

The theme of the 2018 symposium was "One Health in Research and Education to Drive Policy in SA” and focused on Environmental Research, Human/Animal Interface, Biotechnology and One Health Education to drive One Health policy in South Africa.

On the 27th of November One Health researchers from human, animal, environmental, and health disciplines gathered. Attendees were invited from the University of Pretoria, the National Department of Health, Department of Agriculture, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the ARC-Onderstepoort Veterinary Research (ARC-OVR), as well as other universities and organizations, to participate in a symposium that showcased One Health collaboration in research and education.
