IN THE MEDIA: Dr. Elizabeth Mkandawire on what the Africa is doing to advance women and girls in science

On 12 February 2022, Dr Elizabeth Mkandawire, the Network and Research Manager at the FSNet-Africa Project at the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship, spoke to Newzroom Arika on the advancement of women and girls in science. The 11th of February is International Day for Women and Girls in Science, and the day is used to recognize women in the fields of science. Dr. Elizabeth Mkandawire speaks about what the African continent is doing to advance women and girls in science.

Dr Mkwandawire spoke about the challenges and barriers that are still hindering women's ascent in science based professions, and what needs to be done to change this. 

"Part of the challenge is that there is not enough women in leadership to use their experience to influence... policy and to influence change"
