MEXT Scholarship: Japanese Government Scholarship (Research Students, Undergraduate Students and Specialised Training College Students)
The MEXT(Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2020.
The University of Tokyo: School of Science (Global Science Course - GSC) Transfer Program
The Global Science Course was designed to create a platform enhancing cross-cultural interaction among young minds from around the world coming together to learn science at the University of Tokyo.
GSC offers a unique opportunity for international student to pursue studies at the Faculty of Science where Japanese language proficiency is not a requirement, as the whole course will be taught in English.
Prospective students must have successfully completed or will be completing their first two years in an undergraduate program at an accredited higher educational institution (outside Japan) before enrolling into GSC.
ABE (African Business Education) Initiative Masters and Internship for Youth and SDGs Global Leadership Masters and PHD Program
This programme offers scholarships for youth to study master's courses in Japanese universities in English as well as internship opportunities during their stay in Japan. Application will re-open again next year.
Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme
The JET Programme is implemented by local authorities and other organisations of Japan in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations. Young people from South Africa are given the opportunity to live in Japan for at least one year as an Assistant Language Teacher.
Japan: Joint Japan / World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP)
The World Bank is offering scholarships to study at the University of Tsukuba in Japan, under the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The scholarship is an 18 month programme that focuses on International Development with a specific focus on economic and social problems of developing and transitioning countries.
Japan: Ashinaga Africa Initiative
The Ashinaga Africa Initiative is non-profit organisation from Japan, which aims at contributing to global development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The program offers talented orphan students an opportunity to pursue higher education studies, at an undergraduate level, in prestigious universities outside Africa. Students who are committed to return to their home country after completing studies and contributing positively to their communities are encouraged to apply.
JSPS Postdotoral Fellowship for Overseas Researchers
The purpose of this program is to provide opportunities for young postdoctoral researchers from overseas to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups in Japanese universities and other institutions.
