The University of Pretoria (UP) Alumni Office invites you to join the next instalment of our LeadUP: Alumni Thought Leadership virtual events, titled ‘The Zondo Commission Report: What’s next for our captured state?’. This panel discussion will bring together a group of diverse experts and UP alumni to discuss the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture, Corruption and Fraud in the Public Sector, and the steps that should be taken to restore citizens’ faith in our leaders’ ability to build an accountable democratic state.
Minister Ronald Lamola, two-time UP alumnus and South African Minister of Justice and Correctional Services; Lord Peter Hain, former UK Cabinet Minister and renowned anti-apartheid activist; and Dr Carolyn Chisadza, UP alumna and development economist in UP’s Economics Department, will be in conversation with journalist and strategic communications practitioner Ms Sebenzile Nkambule.
Ms Nkambule will chat to the panellists about topics ranging from the legal processes that are likely to unfold in the wake of the State Capture Report; the capacity of the justice system to handle such processes; the actions that government and political leaders should take to restore public trust; the developmental impact of state capture on an already ailing economy; and the best moves South African can make to recover economically and attract investment or other means of fast-tracking development.
