Abstract:

The Digital transformation, caused by the Industrial Internet of things and often named the Fourth Industrial Revolution will change workplaces and business processes. Workers and enterprises have to prepare themselves for meeting new challenges but also new opportunities. Additionally, new qualifications are needed.

Experimental research shows that immersive work environments are very suitable to train workers for new requirements. This talk will explain the changes in the workplace and introduce a lab-oriented training approach which holds some promises for the smooth preparation of workers for the age of digital processes.

Prof. Gronau (born in 1964), studied engineering and business administration at Berlin University of Technology, Germany. He received his PhD in 1994 and completed his habilitation thesis in industrial information systems. Since 2004 he holds the Chair of Business Informatics, Processes and Systems at the University of Potsdam, Germany. His main research activities concentrate on the areas of knowledge management and process management in private and public organisations.

Together with the firm Potsdam Consulting Advisory, Prof. Gronau has supported a variety of small and large companies as well as public organisations by advising them. He is editor of the scientific journals Industrie 4.0 Management, ERP Management and Factory Software and author of many research papers and books on enterprise systems, knowledge management and business process management. He directs the Research and Application Center Industry 4.0, the first lab of its kind in Germany.
