Prof Anton van der Linde

Position, academic and professional qualifications

Professor Anton van der Linde is a professor in the Department of Private Law. He holds the degrees LLB (Pret), LLM (Pret), LLD (Pret). The title of his LLD thesis is “Uitdruklike Erkenning van Regte ten aansien van die Gesin met verwysing na Artikel 8 van die Europese Verdrag vir die Regte van die Mens” (2001).

Academic & professional experience

He joined the Department of Private Law as lecturer, in 1995 promoted to senior lecturer in 1996 and to associate professor in 2001. In 2006 he was appointed as full professor. He is also an admitted attorney of the High Court. He is currently Chairperson of the Internationalisation Committee.

Teaching activities

Professor van der Linde teaches Law of Succession 211 and 221 (ERF 211, 221) as well as Trusts and Estates 410 (TBS 410). He also presents a Certificate Programme in Advanced Trust Law. On LLM Level he teaches topics in the Child Law and Family Law coursework LLM.

He is also responsible for a new LLM programme in Estate Law consisting of the following three components:

  • Aspects of Advanced Law of Succession
  • Aspects of Advanced Trust Law
  • Administration of Estates
