The French Embassy and Alliance

The French section collaborates closely with the French Embassy and Alliance on various levels.

Every year the Embassy arranges and funds an internship for French students who are completing their Masters in teaching French as a foreign language. These French students assist us in offering conversation and support classes to our students.

The Embassy and Alliance regularly invite French and Francophone writers to visit Universities in South-Africa and interact with our students. They also assist us administratively for students who choose to write the international DELF and DALF proficiency examinations.

On a yearly basis, students from our Section are invited to apply to go to France as teaching assistants for English teachers in France. The Embassy provides bursaries for these placements.

The French Embassy also makes bursaries and grants available for Postgraduate students and lecturers who wish to participate in courses locally and in France.

Collaboration with the North-West University

Our Honours programmes in French and German are offered in collaboration with North-West University for which we make use of technology such as Skype, videoconferencing and learning portals. Students from both Universities remain on their own campuses while benefiting from the experience and expertise of lecturers from both institutions.
