BA Hons (Afrikaans)

An average of at least 65% for Afrikaans at third-year level is a prerequisite for application for BA Hons in Afrikaans. Students can choose from a large number of modules in Afrikaans language and literature, as well as Dutch literature, linguistics and general literary theory.

BA Hons (Applied Language Studies)

An average of at least 65% in a major subject (a language, linguistics or a language-related discipline) at third-year level is a prerequisite. Students can choose from a huge variety of modules, including linguistics, sociolinguistics, editing and translation. The primary focus is on second-language instruction and academic literacy.

MASTER'S AND DOCTORAL DEGREES

Requirements and degrees

An average of at least 65% in the previous relevant qualification is a prerequisite for admission to an MA or doctorate.

At master’s and doctoral level several specialists in the Department can give guidance in widely different fields. Students can register for one of the following degrees:

We prefer prospective students to write a letter to the programme manager before submitting a formal application. This enables us to determine whether the Department or the Language Subject Group has a specialist in the field of your interest.
