Double accolades for Dr Dawie Bornman

Posted on August 13, 2018

Dr Dawie Bornman, senior lecturer and researcher in the Department of Business Management, was awarded two noteworthy accolades during June 2018. The first was achieved while presenting at the 8th International Conference on Advances in Economics, Social Sciences and Human Behaviour (ESSHBS), which took place in Paris, France, from 23 to 24 June 2018. Dr Bornman was awarded best paper for his research that he presented entitled: ‘Do as I say, not as I do…Driving ethical leadership towards employee outcomes in an emerging market’.

“It was such a tremendous privilege to be able to represent the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences and specifically the Department of Business Management – and of course South Africa – at the ESSHBS conference, where 24 countries were represented. Being awarded best paper was a great honour and it showcases that we as South Africans and academics from UP are making an impact on a global scale,” said Dr Bornman.

The second achievement took place in Johannesburg while Dr Bornman was in Milan, Italy for the International Conference on Education and Innovative Learning, where he presented and acted as session chair in two presentation sessions. This achievement was in the form of being selected as one of the Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans in the Education category. Each year the Mail & Guardian profiles young South Africans who are making an impact in their field of work and act as leaders in their respective industries.

He stated that, “being selected as one of the M&G Top 200 is amazing, as it gives acknowledgement to the quality of work that I (along with a team of dedicated co-workers and colleagues) try to deliver, and this in turn motivates me to work harder and hopefully inspire other young South Africans. The M&G Top 200 really consists of individuals who inspire me and it is great to see the diversity in each of these young South African’s work and efforts. Being fortunate enough to be selected among these individuals makes me very proud and it gives me hope for our future as South Africans, especially this year with the centenary of former president Nelson Mandela.”
