The UP Orchestras will be interpreting some of the most famous masterpieces of classical music and will endeavour to demonstrate their ability and their comprehension thereof.

Throughout history, many forms of art have been used as outlets to express ideas, particularly music. It is interesting to observe how composers managed to convey their ideas through musical pieces that were not able to feature lyrics. Classical music composers could only use compositional techniques such as orchestration or chordal structures to convey the messages they wanted to express. Many composers used their music to express personal ideas on politics and other issues. These musical pieces can be used as windows into another world. Many of these pieces were not just reflections of the composers’ thoughts, but representations of a culture as whole.

Orchestral compositions show how classical music can act as a forum for free thought. One can see how different musical and compositional techniques can create powerful music that is able to effectively convey a message. History can be analysed through these compositions as they represent attitudes of culture.
