4DEF Thuthuka Challenge

Posted on September 03, 2009

During July, young aspiring Chartered Accountant students from the University of Pretoria’s Thuthuka Programme gathered at the university’s conference centre for the 4DEF Thuthuka Challenge. 4DEF, a student driven initiative, is an acronym for “For the Future.”

The Challenge was aimed at expanding the business and financial knowledge of students, as well as teaching them about the importance of team-work. Each team of students was given sponsored t-shirts to represent different companies.

The team activities included various Time Challenges, Conundrums as well as “The Amazing FinRace.” Questions and tasks were based on recent Finweek magazines, which were all sponsored by Finweek.

The Challenge required effective communication skills, team-work and conflict management skills amongst the team members. At the end of the day it was evident that all these life skills are not necessarily learnt in lectures, and the fun platform of the 4DEF Challenge really brought the message across to the students.
