Project Manager (Ref: 9274)

In the pursuit of the ideals of excellence and diversity, the University of Pretoria wishes to invite applications for the following vacancy.

Duties:  The incumbent will be expected to coordinate activities in a three year European Union
funded project under the EU Africa-Caribbean-Pacific programme, where the University of Pretoria
is the lead agency in a consortium involving South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania and Malawi.
The project will be coordinated through the office of the African Centre for Gene Technologies, based
at the University of Pretoria.  Reporting to the Director of the African Centre for Gene Technologies,
the project administrator will be expected to liaise closely with the project manager of a related project
that is funded through the Carnegie Corporation and is based at the University of Malawi.
The successful candidate will be responsible for general administration of the POL-SABINA project, including:
- Coordinating the creation of a Virtual Research Environment involving all the partner institutions
- Arranging short term training on a variety of topics including project management, proposal writing,
  IP management etc
- Arranging workshops involving policy makers, scientists, entrepreneurs etc
- Tracking of progress against agreed milestones and objectives
- Ensuring deliverables are on brief, on budget and on time
- Ensuring that financial management and reporting meet the stringent requirements laid down for a EU-ACP
  project
- Arranging for exchange visits between scientists in partner institutions
- Coordinating the activities of an international advisory group
- Liaising with the project management committee

Minimum requirements:  A MSc with knowledge of natural product science or related topic.
Training in project management and administration. Excellent organization skills.

Recommended requirements:  A PhD degree. Understanding of business development processes and
intellectual property.

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R292, 857 to R361, 000
(excluding Medical Aid benefits) as determined by UP policy guidelines
