The CMR project is a non-governmental Welfare Organization who delivers services at Zithobeni, a township near Bronkhorstspruit. Their services range from placing children in need of care in foster care and providing in beneficiary’s physical needs.  As part of their” upliftment” program, they presented a holiday project on 11, 12 & 13 July 2017. The theme of our project is “Free time Activities”.  They wanted to get the attendees involved in playing volleyball.

A few of the TuksVolleyball members went to the CMR Project. The plan was to introduce volleyball to young kids, teach them some of the basic skills and play a lot of games. The team were prepared to have 23 kids using only two quick-set volleyball courts as space was limited. However, they were pleasantly overwhelmed with the response as they had more than 50 kids eager to play volleyball by the end of the session.

Age group varied from 7-year-old to 16-year-old, girls and boys. They were separated into two groups,

Ashley Gandy and Khutso Letsoalo handling the older group and Madalina Kovacs and Jessica da Silva handling the younger group. Skills presented were overhand and underhand passing and very briefly the attack on the ball. At the end, a lot of smiling faces were left behind as well as great potential for future volleyball players. The team hope to have inspired at least one child to pursue playing the sport.

Thanks to the Kids Care and Support Trust of Zithobeni to have offered TuksVolleyball the opportunity to help raise awareness of volleyball.
