Laboratory installed in Limpopo National Park

Posted on May 06, 2016

The Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases (DVTD) in collaboration with the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Antwerp, Belgium, and the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) in Maputo, Mozambique undertook the daunting task of setting up a laboratory in the main camp of the Limpopo National Park (LMP), close to the town of Massingir in Mozambique.

The laboratory will be used as a field station for sample collection and preparation. The samples will be analysed at the Eduardo Mondlane University and at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria.

Professor Luis Neves and his team, consisting of Mr Venod Mistry and Ms Anna-Mari Bosman travelled to the LNP in March 2016 to facilitate the installation of the equipment in the laboratory.

The DVTD would like to express its gratitude to the team as well as to the ITM for the successful completion of this project, and is looking forward to accommodating researchers and students at this facility.
