Posted on September 18, 2012

This is the moment for the spectacular of the year at the University of Pretoria, where audiences will be driven gaga by the rapture of bohemia, rocking you as you bask in the inspiring sounds of Queen! Together with theatre personality Joseph Clark, conductor Graham Scott, soprano Hanli Stapela and the youthful sounds of the University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra, a blast for all is guaranteed on 21 and 23 September in the Aula at the University of Pretoria. You will want to live this moment forever!

American-born ballet dancer, performer and all-round theatre personality Joseph Clark is internationally renowned for his interpretation of Queen’s music. The night promises masterpieces from this superstar, including Barcelona, We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody and Who Wants to Live Forever. He will also be performing his favourite compositions, such as Kilimanjaro, Where Do We Turn Now? and Dust Road.

Joining him on stage is South African soprano Hanli Stapela, who rose to fame singing the title roles in Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti and Madame Butterfly by Puccini. She still performs regularly and is the resident Singing Lecturer at the University of Pretoria’s Department of Music.

The UP Symphony Orchestra will be accompanied by a carefully selected rhythm section of South Africa’s finest musicians, including one of the few lead guitarists that can keep up with Brian May, Nathan Smith, up-and-coming jazz star Kate Borthwick on piano, phenomenal bass player Trevor Donjeany, and leading session drummer Rob Watson. Maestro Graham Scott of musical theatre and Huisgenoot Skouspel fame will conduct the concert with his usual artistic and dramatic flair. An orchestral treat will also tantalise the aural taste buds.

The concerts will be held at 20:00 on 21 September and 15:00 on 23 September 2012 in the Aula, at the University of Pretoria Hatfield Campus. Tickets are available from Computicket.
