Winners of the 3rd National Schools Moot Court Competition

Posted on August 14, 2013

The National Schools Moot Court Competition is aimed at creating greater awareness in schools and communities in South Africa about the Constitution and the values that it embodies through active participation. The aim is also to encourage talented young people to consider pursuing a career in law. This Competition provides a unique opportunity for learners to develop their research, writing and oral advocacy skills as they endeavour to come to grips with some of the constitutional issues that are presently facing our country.

The two provincial winning teams with the highest scores, who competed in the final round to determine an overall winner, were Caton Maria Schutte and Tharin Pillay from Crawford College La Lucia in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Samuel Musker and Kate Dewey from Redhill High School in Gauteng. The winning team was Redhill High School.

Tharin Pillay from Crawford College La Lucia High School was awarded best oralist and the best essays were received from Elmé Ravenscroft and Sunelda Erasmus from Hoërskool Rustenburg in the North West Province and Astrid Roman and Kudzanai Mavetera from Sol Plaatje Secondary School in the North West Province.

Congratulations to all participants, you were truly exceptional!
