#TuksNetball: UP-Tuks brush UJ aside to claim another victory

Posted on September 12, 2017

UP-Tuks secured their fourth win of the season when they won 72-30 against UJ on Monday evening at the Rembrandt Hall in Pretoria.

UP-Tuks started off well with superb combinations to keep UJ at bay. Tuks opened the scoring and were four points up within the first five minutes of the game, while UJ lagged behind by two points. The gap widened between the two teams as Tuks led the 15-5 score, with both sides pushing on to create a comfy cushion going to the second quarter.

UJ continued to struggle against the defensively organised Tuks but soon found their rhythm and started to come back into the game as UJ seemed to reduce the deficit, managing to score eight goals in the second quarter while Tuks secured 16 points to make it 32-13.

Tuks called the first power play of the game as they earned four extra points to increase their already impressive score to 45 points. UJ missed out on a golden opportunity to break into the 20-point mark as they couldn’t turn around their misfortune, while Tuks earned an extra point after reaching the 50-goal mark with a 52-18 tally at the end of the third quarter.

The home side marched on in their dominance over the Auckland Park side, with UJ calling the second power play of the match in the hopes of gaining some points. Unfortunately, UJ only managed to gain two points, while Tuks earned six points on top of their overall score to bring it to 62-24. Despite their attempts to increase the score, Tuks were too strong for the UJ squad as the match concluded at 72-30.

This plummets UJ to seventh place with 0 points on the log while Tuks move up to third place with 19 points
