TuksTaekwondo hosts 2nd Korean Ambassadors Cup

17 members from TuksTaekwondo took part, winning four of the six gold medals at stake in Poomsae as well as three silver and four bronze. In Kayorugi Tuks won 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal.

The event is aimed at promoting aspects of Korean Culture such as goodwill and discipline through the continued practice of Taekwondo.

The ready well established bond of co-operation between the University of Pretoria and the South Korean Embassy was further strengthen through a Special Award bestowed upon his Excellency - honorable HanSoo Kim – by the University’s Director of Sport ,Mr. Kobus van der Walt during the opening ceremony.

The event also served as the culmination of a recent Outreach Program from TuksTaekwondo to six schools in Mamelodi: Agnes Chidi, Bajabulile, Balebogeng, Bona Lesedi, Botlhabadtsatsi and Phateng. These schools were awarded with Taekwondo mats donated by the Korean Embassy in partnership with the South African Taekwondo Federation on the recommendation of TuksTaekwondo in conjunction with the Gauteng Department of Education.

These donation mats will serves as a basis for TuksTaekwondo to go and teach learners at their school premises with the goal of enriching their life skills through inherit Taekwondo qualities such as, discipline and perseverance, and improve their overall mental and physical fitness through consistent training.

Develop the sport while promoting, facilitating, enhancing and creating active sport participating communities. As well as to conduct and facilitate the presentation of capacity building programmes, creation of effective partnership and conduct research leading to the development of active participation in sport through which local participants, from athletes, players, coaches and technical officials to volunteer in various leadership roles become agents of change able to plan, manage, evaluate and sustain club, association and community sports programmes.
