She is currently Professor and Chairperson in the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences at ETSU in Johnson City, Tennessee and she received this award at the annual School of Graduate Studies Awards Ceremony.

As an ETSU award winner, Prof Louw will also be nominated for the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools Outstanding Mentor Award.

‘The biggest reward was the nomination itself and the recommendation letters from current and past students here at ETSU and former students at UP, which were submitted as part of the nomination package,’ Prof Louw said.

Prof Louw completed her master’s degree in the USA and her DPhil at UP. She has been invited to chair the topic “Global issues and practices across the discipline” at the annual convention of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to be held in Orlando in November 2014. This association has a membership of close to 150 000, and about 12 000 people are expected to attend the event. Since joining ETSU in 2009 she has received $600 000 in grant funding.
