The Ubuntu Exchange Programme 2015

Posted on May 26, 2015

On Friday, 22 May 2015, we celebrated the visit of the fourth group of Fordham students at the University. Students from Fordham University in the USA annually visit the University of Pretoria for one semester as part of the Ubuntu Exchange Programme. The programme is coordinated by our Head of Department, Prof Antoinette Lombard.

The students come from various disciplines and all do a core module, namely Poverty and Community Development, which is presented across the faculties of Humanities, Economics and Business Management, Law, and Education. The group of students have to do an academic service learning module which is integrated with the aforementioned core module. Furthermore, they also do elective modules in their different academic fields.

The Ubuntu programme is based on a three-fold collaboration between the University of Pretoria, the Jesuit Institute of South Africa and Fordham University. The practice placement for academic service learning provides an opportunity for University of Pretoria and Fordham University students to collaborate in community engagement initiatives.
