TuksWomensRugby: All Tuks Team Takes Gold at 7's IPT

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) Interprovincial Sevens Tournament took place at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit from the 6th – 7th November 2015.

The Blue Bulls Womens team was coached by the TuksWomensRugby coaches, Riaan van der Merwe and Konrad Lotter, and all the women selected to the team are from Tuks. Eight of the women are currently studying at the University of Pretoria.

Nadine Roos is studying a Bed FET and Nolwazi Hlabangane is studying BSport Sci, they are both in theor 1st year. Tyler Botha, Libbie Janse van Rensburg and Frances Muir are all 2nd year students, studying BSport Sci, Physical Education and BMusic respectively. Soné Jansen van Rensburg, Aqeela Moosa, Sanli van den Brink and Sumari Brand are all seniors in the team studying Education, Medicine, BSc Honours Applied Maths and Masters in Sports Science respectively.

The Blue Bulls women had a strong start to the tournament on day 1 defeating Eastern Province 40-0, Pumas 45-0, Golden Lions 24-19 and Boland 54-0. These four solid wins secured them the top of the log position going into day 2.

​The quarter final was played against Free State and the Blue Bulls won 24-5 to progress to the semi. The team faced the Sharks from Kwa-Zulu Natal in the semi-final and won the match by a comfortable 34 points to none.

The women’s final was a closely contested match between Western Province and the Blue Bulls. Outstanding play was seen from both teams up until the final whistle, but it was the Tuks women who reigned supreme winning the match by 2 points. The final score was 24 – 22.

Nadine Roos was awarded Player of the Tournament.

The following five TuksWomensRugby players were selected to attend a Springbok Training Camp in Stellenbosch from the 12th – 15th of December 2015:
