On Thursday, 29 March 2018, the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria officially said goodbye to Professor Danie Brand from the Department of Public Law who has taken up the position of Director at the Free State Centre for Human Rights at the University of the Free State from April 2018.

Dean André Boraine wished Professor Brand well with his future career.  He highlighted Professor Brand’s prominent publications over many years, including the noticeable role he has played in keeping the Annual Survey of South African Law up to date.

Professor Pieter Carstens, former Head of the Department of Public Law, thanked Professor Brand for his valuable contributions over many years and said that he will be sorely missed.  He mentioned Prof Brand's many achievements over the years, in particular serving as an acting judge of the High Court in 2017. He also thanked Prof Brand for his forward thinking in and contribution to the Department of Public Law.  Prof Carstens wished Prof Brand well in his new career and said that he will be sorely missed.
