On 23-24 April the University will host the annual meeting of the United Nations Academic Advisory Council on Mediation. The Director of the Centre for Mediation in Africa at UP, Prof Laurie Nathan, is one of the members of the Council. Other members include academics from Brazil, Canada, Sweden, Turkey and the United States. They will be joined by senior UN officials and local academics. The main theme of the meeting is the relationship between the UN and regional organisations in mediation endeavours. At lunchtime on 23 April the Centre, in collaboration with the departments of political sciences and anthropology and archaeology, will host a public seminar with Council members on the topic of the relevance of culture to international mediation.
