Comprehensive Rehabilitation Research Centre (CPRRC)

The Comprehensive Rehabilitation Research Center facilitates research in the rehabilitation of patients with physical impairments leading to functional disabilities and a problem to participate in activities of self care, recreation/sport, work and socialization in their environment and community. Rehabilitation requires a team approach that reaches far beyond the traditional healthcare team members and also welcomes coworkers from engineering, social sciences, education and all sectors of society.

The Comprehensive Physical Rehabilitation Research Centre strives to:

  • Be involved in applied research to generate new knowledge pertaining to physical rehabilitation in a multidisciplinary/ transdisciplinary approach.
  • Reinforce the existing research activities in the collaborating departments and institutes.
  • Support and promote research collaboration within various disciplines in the Faculty of Health Sciences, between Faculties in the University of Pretoria and inter-institutional collaborative research with national and international partners that will add value to the body of knowledge in the various aspects of science.

Group of clinical expertise: Clinical group of rehabilitation Excellence (Public Private Collaboration)

The Department of Physiotherapy formed a collaborative association with six private rehabilitation practices in and around Gauteng Province and one in Mpumalanga to create a forum through which research results can be disseminated, transferred and implemented.

The aims of the group are to:

  • Share expertise based on research in various aspects of rehabilitation
  • Facilitate ongoing research and capacity building in terms of clinical expertise
  • Enhance rehabilitation service rendered to patients by the collaborative parties
