When you work hard...it's only fair that you party hard-Conor Maynard

When one hears the name “Onderstepoort”, one immediately thinks of academic excellence, strong and proud traditions…and students who excel at bringing the house down at parties – a now equally proud tradition that helps us relieve some of our work-induced stresses. The saying “work hard, play hard” has never rung truer than at OP.

We start our socialising with the annual Hawaiian Party at the beginning of Welcoming Week. It’s a night of bright colours, pretty leis and swishing grass skirts (usually worn by the boys, incidentally) but more importantly, it is our NewVs’ first OP party and a chance for them to mingle with the rest of the Opiates. The Hawaiian Party is always a jol and a stunning way to start the year.

March brings with it St Patrick’s Day, an old favourite at OP. A day dedicated to green, Guinness and appalling Irish accents means that here at OP we are always sure to mark the occasion.

We also have our Med vs Vet Party, which is our chance to show our mettle as we battle it out at the bar and on the dancefloor for the title of Ultimate Partyers.

Despite everything previously mentioned, our free time is not entirely filled up with wild partying. We find the time to do some more relaxing activities. We also make sure to show our support during sports events, looking smart and possibly even a little intimidating when we turn up in social greens en masse.
