Onderstepoort Beagle Interest Group

The Beagle Interest Group (B.I.G) club and committee’s main goal is ensuring that the welfare of the Onderstepoort beagles are kept at a high standard, but this is not where the B.I.G stops. We also support a local animal shelter, arrange fun washdays with our beagles on campus, participate in the dog friendly Run4Rhinos at LC de Villiers sports ground and we even built our own agility centre.

The club provides opportunity for students to interact with the beagles in a non-academic manner. You know the feeling when you are sad, miss home, or you feel like you cannot cope with all the tests and assignments anymore? Well we have the solution for you! Just go and spend a few minutes with a beagle or 2 and we guarantee that your feelings of despair will dissipate

Why Beagles? They might be small in stature but they are big on personality! The Beagle breed is well known for its calm and easy-going temperament thus ideal to create a comfortable environment for all the students. In general this breed does not present with major health issues and their size is neither too big nor too small making it easier to handle them.

Ultimately our end goal is to give our older beagles a dream retirement by having them adopted into a loving forever home. For this to happen we try our best to ensure that the beagles are well trained and socialized so that they will easily fit into any home. We are growing in number and in strength - 2018 is going to be a year that we push the boundaries of what was thought could be done. There are BIG things to come.
