Dear First-year students,

Welcome Day is one of the most important days in the University's academic calendar when we welcome new first-year students and their parents or guardians as part of the UP family and community.

You and your parents or guardians are invited to the 2018 Welcome Day taking place on Saturday, 27 January 2018 at the Rembrandt Hall on the UP Hillcrest Sports Campus in South Street, Hatfield, Pretoria.   

In order to accommodate everyone, two sessions are planned.

The first session will commence at 08:00 and the second at 11:00.  At both sessions, the senior leadership team of the University will be introduced and the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of UP, Prof Cheryl de la Rey, will address the new students and their families.  Both sessions will be preceded by a formal procession of the University's Executive and deans.

Group 1




Tea/coffee (at the entrance of the Sport Centre)

TuksVillage, Olienhout, Boekenhout, Mopanie, Taaibos, Maroela, Katjiepiering, Kollege, Kiaat, Inca, Lilium, Zinnia


Group 2






Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology
Health Sciences
Natural and Agricultural Sciences
Veterinary Science

Tea/coffee (at the entrance of the Sport Centre)

To ensure the success of this event please pay particular attention to the session you are allocated to.

Please take note of the following arrangements:

  • Students are permitted a maximum of three guests.
  • Guests are to be seated 30 minutes before the procession starts.  Seats in the Rembrandt Hall are limited.

The Welcome Day session will be live-streamed to venues outside Rembrandt Hall to accommodate a possible overflow of guests and will also be posted on the University's website.
