Students from the University of Pretoria's Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences achieved the highest cumulative pass rate in South Africa in the two most recent Initial Tests of Competence administered by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). SAICA's Initial Test of Competence (ITC) exam is the first of the two professional exams required to complete the Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification.

The cumulative pass rate for the University's 2016 Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA) cohort, after completing both the January and June 2017 ITCs, was an excellent 98,5%.

The University of Pretoria also achieved the highest pass rate in South Africa in the June 2017 ITC, and scored the highest combined average mark for the four papers written during this exam.

'The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences departments specialising in Financial Sciences (Accounting, Auditing, Financial Management and Taxation) are extremely proud of their students and staff, and heartily congratulate them on their results,' said Prof Johan Oberholster, Deputy Dean: Teaching and Learning, and CA Programme Co-ordinator in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at UP.
