The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria is proud to announce that its Law Clinic has been awarded the Yousif Badri Civic Engagement International Prize (YBCEIP) by the Ahfad University for Women in Sudan. The prize amounts to $5 000 US (approximately R68 375), which was handed over during the Award Ceremony at the Ahfad University for Women on 12 December 2016.

In a letter to management, the Director of the Law Clinic, Mr Frans Haupt thanked all staff members and others whose dedication, support and hard work over the years made this possible. 'Thank you, in particular, to Christina Moslagae and Lourens Grové, who were responsible for the submissions and PowerPoint slides through the different rounds [of the competition]. Although we do what we do because we believe that we can and do make a difference in the lives of our students and clients, it is good to receive this type of recognition.'

The Ahfad University for Women in Sudan, in celebration of its Golden Jubilee, established the YBCEIP to pay tribute to their founding father, Yousif Badri's remarkable and life-long service to women's education and civic engagement. The prize recognises and celebrates extraordinary university programmes with ongoing community engagement and provision of service. Its aim is to encourage and aid these extraordinary efforts by awarding a monetary gift.
