Shifting knowledge to insight - empowering enterprises and suppliers in 2016

Posted on November 16, 2016

Enterprises University of Pretoria (Pty) Ltd (Enterprises UP) collaborated with the Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) in identifying four service providers as partners for its 2016 Supplier Development Programme. This programme, along with this year’s Enterprise Development (ED) Programme, focused on the development and empowerment of suppliers through training and advisory services.

Supplier Development Programme

The beneficiaries selected for the Supplier Development Programme are external businesses, currently providing services or products to Enterprises UP. One of the objectives of this programme was to develop long-term working relationships with these businesses and to ensure their sustainability. The programme comprised two phases, involving training and specialised advisory services. The first was the Whole Brain® Manager Workshop, a two-day programme for two people in each organisation, which explored the mental demands of each member’s job, teaching them how to leverage thinking and maximise their personal performance.

The second phase involved specialised advisory services that were set up with each company and took the form of one-on-one sessions with various acclaimed business management and entrepreneurship specialists. Our specialists visited each entity and assisted them with business-related challenges and issues, including financial management, the overall health of the businesses and how to achieve business sustainability.

The partners of the Supplier Development Programme were Adomode (Pty) Ltd, Gomolemo Consulting (Pty) Ltd, MJ Mafunisa Consulting (Pty) Ltd and ETMAC (Pty) Ltd.

ED Programme

The 2016 ED programme focused on small, medium and micro-sized enterprises (SMMEs) currently not providing any services or products to Enterprises UP. Three SMMEs were selected from a list of finalists in the Tshwane Economic Development Agency’s Youth Entrepreneurship Drive. The programme was intended to contribute towards the growth and future sustainability of the small businesses.

The beneficiaries of the ED Programme were Azania Zulu Creations, Organic Avenue and Kusini Water. Azania Zulu Creations and Kusini Water benefited from a brand identity development workshop that included discussions around brand development, brand positioning and the development of a slogan. Organic Avenue received business advice and services focusing on product optimisation, sensory research and product development.
