As part of a drive to promote its courses among high school pupils in KwaZulu-Natal, staff from the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT) at the University of Pretoria (UP) presented an information evening in Durban on Tuesday, 26 April 2016. The event, which was held at Glenwood High School, attracted about 100 guests, comprising both students and their parents.

Mr Myan Subrayan from the Department of University Relations at UP, acted as the master of ceremonies during the event and also shared a motivational message. Prof Sunil Maharaj, the Dean of EBIT, delivered a presentation on everything the Faculty offers students and also guided a virtual tour of the Faculty utilising photographs of its facilities. Ms Emily Mathe, EBIT Marketing Officer, encouraged students to contact EBIT's Faculty Administration and to help themselves to the various flyers and brochures available at the event.

The evening concluded with Prof Maharaj being interviewed on Trending Tonight, a daily evening show, Trending Tonight, by well-known radio presenter, Sirshin Moodliar. During the interview, Prof Maharaj shared some of his extensive knowledge on broadband and the ways in which it benefits the economy and various areas of business and industry.

Prof Maharaj said that this was a good opportunity for UP to showcase the programmes and study opportunities available in the Faculty. 'As a public higher education institution, we need to continuously attract the top learners from all over the country. UP, and EBIT in particular, offers world-class facilities, education and training at a very competitive price.'
