UP professor appointed to board for Water Research Commission

Posted on February 03, 2016

Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane, recently appointed the new Board of the Water Research Commission (WRC), which will be led by well-known water sector activists, Dr Nozibele Mjoli, who will serve as Chairperson, and our very own Prof Sibusiso Vil-Nkomo as Deputy Chairperson.

The new WRC leadership comes at a critical point at which the organisation is making a quantum leap in its strategy to respond to South Africa’s water challenges.

Prof Vil-Nkomo currently serves as Research Professor in the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship at the University of Pretoria. He is a former Executive Director and member of the Executive of the University of Pretoria. He has studied mainly in the USA, having obtained his bachelor’s degree at Lincoln University (Magna Cum Laude) and his master’s and PhD degrees at the University of Delaware.

Prof Vil-Nkomo is also a member of the Board of Advisors for the School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Delaware, and serves as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University.
