12 January 2016
On Tuesday, 12 January 2016 protest action against the outsourcing of services continued at the University of Pretoria. The protest action forms part of a national campaign that has also affected other tertiary institutions in Gauteng.
During the course of the day, students from institutions other than UP and contracted workers from other institutions gained entry to the Hatfield Campus.
An urgent court order was obtained interdicting protesters from their unlawful actions to bring the situation under control and to allow students who have worked hard to be accepted at the University, and who have often traveled from far, to continue with the registration process.
Online registrations are going according to schedule.
Talks between UP Management and the various stakeholders are continuing in order to establish an agreement regarding the insourcing of services. The University is also working closely with the Department of Higher Education and Training to resolve the situation.
The University will be closed to UP staff and students on Wednesday, 13 January 2016.
