On 21 October Tuks students joined in the national campaign on fees with peaceful demonstrations at the Hatfield Campus.

The Vice-Chancellor and Principal was present on campus on 21 October 2015 to receive the students’ memorandum of demands. She addressed the students on two occasions during the day. The University Management has declared its commitment to solving the current problems within its control and has agreed to meet with a delegation of the protesting students on 22 October 2015 for constructive discussions.

The University has suspended academic activities for the rest of the week. It has rescheduled its academic programme to accommodate lectures, tests and examinations so as not to compromise students’ academic obligations. The Management would like to apologise for any inconvenience in this regard.

The current issues are a national problem and beyond the sole control of the University of Pretoria.

The Vice-Chancellor and Principal is engaging with government to find a solution and will also be participating in the Presidential Working Group to seek a solution.
