Prof David Maree appointed to professional board

Prof David Maree from the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Pretoria (UP) was recently appointed by the Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, to the Professional Board for Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).  The HPCSA is a statutory body, established to serve and protect the public and to provide guidance to registered healthcare professionals.

Prof Maree was appointed to serve on the Professional Board for Psychology as a psychologist for a five-year term that started in July 2015.         

Prof Maree said it is an honour to serve professional and academic psychology in this manner:  “It is an exciting time to be involved in professional psychology.  On many fronts South African psychology is transforming and impacting locally and internationally.  It is our duty to advocate its scientific, ethical and therapeutic basis forcefully and as psychologists make a real difference to society in South Africa.”  Prof Maree is also the outgoing President of the Psychological Society in South Africa (PsySSA).
