Prof MaryAnn Romski will be awarded the Honors of the Association by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in November 2015.

 

Prof Romski is an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria’s Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (CAAC), as well as  a Professor of Communication and the Associate Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences for the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, USA. She holds joint appointments in the departments of Psychology and Educational Psychology and Special Education, and is the Director of GSU's Center for Research on Atypical Development and Learning (CRADL).

 

The Honors of the Association recognises members for their distinguished contributions to the discipline of communication sciences and disorders, and is the highest honour the Association can bestow. According to the ASHA bylaws, the purpose of the award is to encourage the recognition of individuals whose contributions have been of such excellence that they have enhanced or altered the course of their profession. It is awarded to individuals whose contributions have been confined to a single area of achievement. Individuals who are nominated are typically well known throughout the world for a lifetime of innovative clinical practice, insightful and rigorous research, creative administration, effective legislative activity, outstanding teaching and other distinguished professional contributions.
