A formal send-off event was held at the Bestmed TuksAthletics Clubhouse on 23 June 2015. Thirty-two student-athletes, two coaches, two team managers and six club members from TuksSport will be travelling to Gwangju, South Korea, from the 3–14 July 2015 to represent South Africa at the 2015 Fédération internationale du sport universitaire (FISU) 28th Summer Universiade.

TuksSport Deputy Director of Coaching and High Performance, Mr Steven Ball welcomed guests on behalf of TuksSport. Mr Ball highlighted the positive impact that the athletes, club managers and media have on the brand. He further added that TuksSport’s success is due to the passion of everyone who is part of the family. ‘You are part of the Stripe Generation; you are part of something unique and special. You are helping us write the history of the University of Pretoria. You have definitely earned your stripe.’ Mr Ball encouraged athletes to adapt to the new environment upon their arrival in South Korea, ‘and above all: Tuks of Niks!’ added Mr Ball.

TuksSport Deputy Director, Dr Rendani Mulaudzi congratulated the athletes on their achievement. He also thanked the club management and the technical staff for creating suitable conditions for the athletes to focus on their respective sports. Dr Mulaudzi encouraged the athletes to remove all limiting beliefs and excuses by taking ownership of their preparations and performance. ‘You are our ambassadors through your conduct both on and off the field. While representing South Africa at the games, you will also be representing this great institution. We shall be glad and honoured if you would just give your best and fit in with the rest of Team South Africa,’ he said.

TuksSport athletes will represent South Africa in Athletics, Football, Golf, Rowing, Shooting, and Swimming.
