Posted on April 23, 2015

The best of SA radio was honoured at the sixth annual MTN Radio Awards gala dinner at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday 18 April 2015. Tuks FM walked away with five awards including the prestigious Campus Station of the Year award for the fourth year running, which brings to 26 Tuks FM’s MTN Radio Awards tally over the last four years.

The awards programme – the radio industry’s biggest award show – attracted well over 1 700 entries from more than 110 radio stations showing a significant increase from the number of entries received in 2014. Entries for the MTN Radio Awards are reviewed by a panel of 48 judges and the various winners are determined by their scores.

Dewald Noel van Niekerk, Tuks FM station manager, expressed his delight: ‘I am extremely proud of the Tuks FM team and the awards we have received. We are humbled by the ongoing support from our audience and the radio industry.’

Tuks FM received the following awards:

Campus Station of the Year: Tuks FM 107.2

Best Campus Night-time Show: Alt La Femme

Best Campus Afternoon Drive Show: The Drive Way

Best Campus Promotion, Stunt/Event: World Radio Challenge

Best Campus and Community On-air Packaging

Tuks FM has shown a substantial increase in listenership numbers over the past three years as a result of the emphasis that the station puts on its listeners. The station is extremely active online and in 2014 it recorded over 57 000 unique users from more than 140 countries around the world on the Tuks FM website. The station’s online properties saw a tremendous growth recently on Twitter (over 40 000 followers) and on Facebook (close to 60 000 likes) placing the station among the top ten of all radio stations in South Africa and, needless to say, at number one in the campus radio sector.
