Ten postdoctoral fellows further theological research at UP

The Faculty of Theology is glad to have a postdoctoral couple, Dr Corneliu C. Simut and his wife Dr Ramona Simut from Romania, studying in the Faculty for their two-year postdoctoral tenure from November 2014 to October 2016. The Simuts are two of ten postdoctoral fellows currently enrolled at UP’s Faculty of Theology.

Dr Corneliu C Simut holds the degrees PhD from the University of Aberdeen, ThD from the University of Tilburg and DD from the University of Pretoria. He is Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology at Emanuel University of Oradea and Editor-in-Chief of Perichoresis, the theological journal of Emanuel University. His postdoctoral research, undertaken under supervision of UP Theology’s Dean, Prof Johan Buitendag in the Department of Dogmatics and Christian Ethics, focuses on the investigation of ancestry as ecodomy in Eastern Orthodox Christianity and indigenous African religions.

Dr Ramona Simut, who received her PhD degree at the University of Utrecht, is Reader in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory at Emanuel University and Editor-in-Chief of Caesura, the journal of philological and humanistic studies. Her postdoctoral research theme deals with Edward Schillebeeckx's idea of anthropology and nature as complete ecodomy and is supervised by Prof Johann Meylahn in the Department of Practical Theology.

The other eight postdoctoral fellows currently studying in UP’s Faculty of Theology are Dr Kroesbergen and Dr Jacob Meiring under supervision of Prof Buitendag in the Department of Dogmatics and Christian Ethics, Dr Siphiwe Dube under supervision of Prof Dreyer in the Department of Practical Theology; Dr Anneke Viljoen under supervision of Dr Geyser-Fouche in the Department of Old Testament Studies; Dr Blessing Boloje under supervision of Prof Groenewaldt in the Department of Old Testament Studies; Dr P White under supervision of Prof Niemandt in the Department of Science of Religion and Missiology; Dr R Kruidenier under supervision of Prof Muller in the Department of Practical Theology and Dr Gys Loubser under supervision of Prof Veldsman in the Department of Dogmatics and Christian Ethics.
