Forty six years of teaching African indigenous musical arts theory and performance practice. Thirty two years of field and practical studies of the underlying philosophies, principles and creative theory in the indigenous African musical arts - music, dance, drama, plastic arts, aesthetics and presentation - all commonly inter-structured in conception, creativity and performance-practices. Also, fifteen years of interactive research in the modern study and practice of African music in Europe.
Currently Professor of African music (Theory & Practice) at the Dept of Music, University of Pretoria, South Africa since 2000. Centre/Program Director of the Centre for Indigenous Instrumental Music Practices of Africa – Education, Research and Practice for SADC countries.
The Centre, funded by the Norwegian Foreign Office through Concert Norway, has been conducting re-orientation and re-training activities on the philosophy, theory and educational practice of African musical arts in African classrooms since 2004, and has published 12 books on contemporary African musical arts education and issues including literacy classical drum ensemble music repertories.

Joseph Stanford is the most senior member on the staff of the UP’s Department of Music. He teaches piano, piano methodology, harmony and counterpoint.He has received several honorary awards from, e.g., Unisa and the South African Academy for Arts and Science.
Many of his students have been the winners of national and international music competitions.

He has played concertos with professional orchestras under conductors such as Wolfgang Bothe, Dawid de Villers, Stephen Portman, Pinchas Steinberg and Vladimir Kern among others. Wessel is an Associate Professor in the Music Department of the University of Pretoria where he teaches piano and chamber music and supervises post-graduate dissertations. He is frequently invited to serve as a judge for national competitions and is passionate about creating performance opportunities for young musicians.

Carol Lotter completed a MMus (Music Therapy) at the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2003 and is a registered as music therapist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Since 2006 she has served as co-director of the MMus (Music Therapy) Training programme at the University of Pretoria. Her role includes administration of all aspects of the course, lecturing, supervision and examining of clinical work. She also serves as course leader for the BMus (Hons) course in Music Communication.
Carol’s clinical experience includes music therapy work with adolescents in conflict with the law, patients in private and state psychiatric clinics and adults with mental and physical handicaps. She is currently busy with a PhD in Mental Health.
