Annual Kumba Technology Day held at the University of Pretoria, Mining Engineering Department

The show case event was held over two days with day one for the official opening and senior members of Anglo American - London, Australia and South Africa. The Vice Chancellor Prof Cheryl De la Rey opened the first day's proceedings and welcomed the delegation from Kumba including Technology partners . The attendees were treated to an Exhibition area where they got to interact with Kumba’s Technology team to better understand the Technology adopted at Kumba’s operations. This was facilitated by a custom built Kumba App with Augmented reality in it. The showcasing also included a visit to the 3D theatre and 3D 360 cylinder where the message of "Now" and the "Next" technology was visually displayed.

The move into the future has one main central theme and that is to have Integrated Seamless Operations with improved safety, efficiencies and more productive. An exhibition hall was also on offer where the latest innovations were discussed and explained. The six topics were Geo-spatial tool (use of drones), Geo-sciences (better understanding of an ore body), Advance Process control, Auto-braking, which is a collision avoidance system for haul trucks, Autonomous drilling and the implementation of a more advanced Dispatch system.

The delegates were also treated to an interactive mural depicting the journey of Technology in Kumba.
