The demographics of our students have changed significantly over the last number of years. At present 78% of undergraduate students are black and 22% are white. The female undergraduate student population comes to 32%. Approximately 6% of the Department’s students are foreign nationals. All 11 official South African languages are represented in the Department and other language groups represented are German, Italian, Portuguese and French.
Undergraduate student numbers have increased from 189 in 2007 to 345 in 2015. Postgraduate numbers have increased from 18 in 2007 to 69 in 2015.
