The Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria is proud to announce that a senior lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law, Dr Reghard Brits, has recently published a scholarly monograph in the field of property and credit law, titled “Real Security Law” as part of Juta’s Property Law Library. The book was launched in Johannesburg on 3 November 2016 at a gala dinner during the annual South African Property Law Teachers’ Colloquium.

The book contains a comprehensive analysis of all the usual forms of real security in South African law, such as the mortgage of land, the pledge of movables, general and special notarial bonds, security cession, tacit hypothecs, statutory security rights and liens. The author analyses these topics mostly from a property law perspective but also touches upon the impact of fields such as insolvency and consumer credit law. Of particular interest is that the book also contains a constitutional dimension.

This work is of interest and benefit to legal practitioners, the judiciary, financial institutions, academics and legal researchers.

The book is available from Juta Law.
