Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics SAMS Achievements

Posted on November 10, 2015

A large number of researchers from the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics participated in the 58th Annual Congress of the South African Mathematics Society (SAMS). This year the event was hosted by WITS and held from 4 to 6 November in Johannesburg.

It is with great pride that the Department would like to congratulate Sesuai Madanha (supervised by: Hung Tong-Viet and John van den Berg) and Tesfalem Abate Tegegn (supervised by: Mamadou Sango) with their respective first and second prize winning achievements for best postgraduate student presentations at the conference.

SAMS was started in Pretoria as a national mathematical association on 24 July 1957. The University of Pretoria has always contributed to the outputs achieved by this Society. We are excited to announce that this contribution will be extended with Kerstin Jordaan selected to serve as the new SAMS President, and Gusti van Zyl as the general secretary. We wish them all the best with the task ahead and know they will make our Department proud.
