A great week for the Crypto Giants

IKwekwezi FM interview

On the 15th of May 2014, the Crypto Giants (CGs) had the pleasure of making their brand known to the rest of South Africa when they had an interview on IKwekwezi FM Youth Talk.

The aim of the interview was to enlighten listeners of the radio station about who they are and to inspire the youth of South Africa to be excited about maths and pursuing a career in the field. The group was represented by three of its members, namely: Nosipho Mathebula, Cliford Malapane and Lerato Masola. They answered questions such as: “Who are the Crypto Giants?”,  “What difference has joining the group made to their lives?” and “How to become part of the group?”. The interview proved to be informative and successful as listeners were exposed to the group and itspurpose.

NRF/SA PhD project presentation

Not only did the CGs have the pleasure of getting their names out there, but also had the honour of receiving their presentation for the week from Ms Kgomotso Mthimunye from the National Research Fund (NRF) on the following day, 16 May. The presentation proved to be informative as well as motivational.

Ms Mthimunye started off by asking the students one simple question: “Why are you here?” This question proved to be the basis of what motivates students to push harder through their studies and to continue to postgraduate studies. The presentation was relevant to the group because one of the main aims of the group is to equip its members for postgraduate studies. Students were encouraged to look at the different aspects of their lives namely:
1. Career,
2. Health and wellness,
3. Service ad contribution,
4. Financial wealth,
5. Spirituality and
6. Development

They were informed of several funding and internship opportunities available to them once they pursue their postgraduate studies.  Different networks, to be built whilst they are still studying, were also highlighted.

The Crypto Giants would like to thank the programme manager, Mr Skosana from IKwekwezi FM Youth Talk for the airtime given to them as well as Ms Mthimunye for her time and words of wisdom and encouragement for the future.
