The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria (UP) is proud to announce that former Constitutional Court Justice Johann van der Westhuizen has been appointed as Head of the Department of Jurisprudence. It is an honour to welcome Prof Van der Westhuizen back. He has come full circle, having previously been a professor at UP, serving as Head of the Department Jurisprudence (then known as the Department of Legal History, Comparative Law and Legal Philosophy) and as the founding Director of the Centre for Human Rights in the Faculty of Law from 1980 to 1998.

The Faculty thanks Prof Karin van Marle, the outgoing Head of the Department of Jurisprudence, for her contributions to the Department's development over the two terms she served in the office, and for her many other contributions, including serving as Chair of the Faculty's Research Committee of the Faculty. Prof Van Marle will remain in the Department and continue contributing to its success.
