Calculators

First years are advised to purchase the HP 10BII calculator for FBS 122. This is a financial calculator and you will be able to use this calculator for some parts of IAS 211 and 221 too.

The other option for a financial calculator is the HP 12C which is a very powerful financial calculator. You are welcome to purchase this calculator if you would like, they are just quite expensive and really not necessary for your purposes at the moment.

The following calculators are permitted by the Actuarial Society of South Africa. So you will be able to use one of these calculators for your examinations through the Actuarial Society:

·         Casio FX82 (with or without any suffix)

·         Casio FX83 (with or without any suffix)

·         Casio FX85 (with or without any suffix)

·         HP 12C (with or without any suffix)

·         Sharp EL531 (with or without any suffix)

·         Texas Instruments BA II Plus (with or without any suffix)

·         Texas Instruments TI-30 (with or without any suffix)

What you could do is buy the HP 10BII as a financial calculator and a scientific calculator (such as the Casio or the Sharp) from the list above. This way you would not have to spend a fortune on calculators that you may only be using for a few years.
