Dr Marina Martin was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Human Economy Programme at the University of Pretoria in 2013. She was also a Visiting Fellow at the LSE's Asia Research Centre.

Marina Martin was formerly a fellow at Yale University’s MacMillan Centre for International and Area Studies. She received her PhD in Economic History from LSE, an MSc in International Politics from SOAS, and a BA Hons in German from KCL, where she majored in German political theory.

A specialist on the modern economic, institutional and legal history of money and credit, Marina has explored traditional or informal credit and networks in South Asia. Her work examines the  institutional evolution of economic institutions, delving into issues of contract, with special reference to legal transplants. Marina is especially interested in the colonial history and legacies of exchanges and encounters between Britain, India and South Africa.  She is currently pursuing research on the  economic and legal history of Indian indentured labour in South Africa.
