#TuksHockey: Tuks to face off against Wits in Varsity Hockey semi-final

Posted on May 15, 2017

It was tough, really tough, but the players of TuksHockey team never relented and in the end, they managed to beat Wits 1-0 to top the Varsity Hockey Tournament log.

The challenge Tuks faces in this afternoon’s semi-final in Potchefstroom is that they got to do it all over again as they are playing Wits again.

Inky Zondi (Tuks coach) is under no illusions as to what awaits his team.
“Wits will definitely come out at us hard again. They are a team that fights to the last minute. The most important thing for our players will be to forget what happened in the previous game. The moment we step onto the field the playing field will be level again.”

Zondi described his team’s performance against Wits yesterday as probably not their best.
“The players were slightly lethargic at times. However, I was, impressed with our defensive play. This afternoon it will be important to just focus on what they are able to control. They will also have to be disciplined. During Saturday’s game against UJ the players discipline let them down somewhat. There were too many green cards and sinbin incidents. You only get one chance in a semi-final. If we waste it we will have to wait another two years to maybe play in the Varsity-final.”

Two years ago Tuks lost out to UJ in the Varsity semi-finals.
In yesterday’s game against Wits Chané Hill scored the winning goal in the last four minutes. It was scored from a short corner.

Maties and Pukke will be contesting the other semi-final.
